Sir Elton Hercules John (1947) es el seudónimo artístico del cantante británico nacido como Reginald Kenneth Dwight Harris. Durante los sesentas probó suerte en diversas agrupaciones, sin éxito, hasta que se asoció con el letrista Bernie Taupin y comenzó su larga y exitosa carrera como solista, empezando por el disco Elton John de 1971, el que tendría el hit Your Song.
Los setentas sería una década prolífica para Elton John; ataviado con extravagantes disfraces muy propios del Glam Rock, sus discos y shows serían rutilantes éxitos. De la época serían sus hits Crocodile Rock (1972), Candle In The Wind (1973) Bennie And The Jets (1973) y Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me (1974).
En los 80 dejaría de lado temporalmente su sociedad con Bernie Taupin, y se volcaría a lo melódico. Aún con algunos altibajos su carrera tendría un fuerte impulso con la composición de la banda sonora de El Rey Leon (1994) así como la adaptación de su tema Candle in the Wind como The English Rose (1997), con motivo de la muerte de la princesa Diana de Gales.
